also known as “EFT” (Emotional Freedom Technique) was originally conceived by a Stanford Engineer, Gary Craig, well over 40 years ago. It was then developed further by Roger Callahan and led to many of the forms used all over the world today. It is a very simple and effective technique that is easily learned. By tapping or massaging specific acupuncture points on the face and torso, emotional and physical blockages are brought up and released.
The patient typically experiences first an immediate physical release of tension, followed by the lessening of emotional stress. The patient is then able to reframe the issue and work with it again if necessary, but it will be far less emotionally laden each time after that.Depending on the issue, many times only 1-2 repetitions are necessary for the issue to resolve and in as little as 20-30 minutes.
EFT can be used for a variety of issues both physical and emotional. Some popular uses are: weight loss, smoking cessation, fears/phobias, money issues, anxiety, depression. The possibilities are literally endless.
EFT is not only a safe therapy but quite desirable, as the subject is in complete control of the process. He/she can control what is being said during the tapping process but can monitor the responses being evoked as well. Once learned, it is a valuable tool that one can use at any future time. In contrast to many forms of talk therapy, EFT can bring issues to resolution in a shorter time frame. On the other hand, it can also complement traditional psychotherapy, often allowing for bigger breakthroughs.
“Dr. Milau’s approach was entirely different than that of any other Manhattan psychiatrist who has treated me for depression. Trained at two of the country’s leading medical centers, Mount Sinai and Columbia Presbyterian in NYC, she is an excellent physician who uses energy healing in her practice. She worked with me both with EFT tapping and Reiki as well as color therapy, all of which are extremely helpful to me.
Was I skeptical at first? Yes. I was used to conventional approaches to treat depression but found that working with Dr.Milau was instrumental in my making major leaps forward both personally and professionally. She is also an incredibly kind doctor and I feel very lucky to have been referred to her.”

“When I first came to Dr. Milau, I was an absolute mess. I was in a job where I was being emotionally abused by my employer but felt too helpless and trapped to quit. I had been diagnosed earlier in my life with General Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and OCD from events that had happened in my childhood and early adulthood.
Dr. Milau did not just listen and “give advice”. She made me work through my issues. She would write and write and then I would write and write. Sometimes she would make me say out loud what she was saying in order to make sure I was comfortable with the affirmations and directions she was giving me.
About a year into seeing Dr. Milau, I experienced the most traumatic experience of my life when I found out that my “Pillar of the Community”, “Deacon of the Church”, “Christian” father had been sexually molesting my niece, his granddaughter, for more than five years. I completely lost it. This was my daddy. He wasn’t perfect but he had always provided for us and I had always felt loved.
At this time, I was in a different job, but had an even more ruthless boss, so combined with my despair over my dad, I once again felt myself drowning in fear, anxiety, anger, and emotions I couldn’t even name. Dr. Milau introduced me to Meridian Tapping, an Emotional Freedom Technique. We practiced and practiced together over and over again. Dr. Milau would write down word for word what to say while tapping and had me do it in our sessions until she was sure I was comfortable with the method. I bought a book and learned even more about the practice and could not believe how powerful and transformational it was.
It did not take long for me to feel the effects of the tapping. The first thing I noticed was how calm I was after tapping. Then I began to gradually feel more stable with my emotions and was able to see real change begin to happen in my life. It has been a few years now and I still find myself turning to Meridian Tapping when faced with challenges in my life. I truly believe with all my heart and soul it changed my life. It changed me. It changed how I react. It’s made me stable, and a more emotionally healthy person.”
